OPI You Ottaware Purple

Read Time:1 Minute, 17 Second

This is one of the first OPIs I bought when starting Just Nice Things. I treated myself to about 50 nail varnishes in a massive haul so that I had something to write about, and I included this one. So, shamefully, it took me nearly three years to actually get around to blogging about it. Story of my life really.

From 2004’s Canada collection, You Ottaware Purple looks like a gorgeous dense Cadbury coloured purple in the bottle. It’s the kind of shade I would have gone absolutely mad for in my teenage years, and if not for every day,  the older me still appreciates these tones.

However. Application and wear and pretty much everything else was somewhat disastrous. This is ever so sheer and runny and generally a bit of a nightmare. You’re seeing four coats. One thing that was nice and unexpected though was the red and pink shimmer that you can’t see from the bottle at all. This was really pretty and I was pleased to see it there. But then again, the finish of this polish is just plain strange. Extremely frosty and shimmery and it just didn’t look nice.

Also, it looked tired and fed up and pretty chippy and dull after a day. Shame, as this has so much potential to be special and a unique shade, especially with the unexpected shimmer. I will be giving this another chance at some point, maybe with a different top coat, but don’t be surprised if it probably takes me another three years.

  1. It’s nice. I looked it up on other blogs and they all used 4 coats. A shame because it is really pretty.

3 coats are fairly routine but 4 is taking things a bit far.

  2. I think this looks really pretty on you, shame about the terrible formula! I won’t be looking out for this one, shame as i really like it.
