OPI Vodka & Caviar

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Long-time readers of this blog will know that I am on a constant search for a red creme polish that is opaque in one or two coats. Several readers and Twitter followers recommended I pick this up, OPI’s Vodka & Caviar.

Can I just say – what a fantastic name for a polish. The colour also reminds me strongly of a Bloody Mary. Not one of my regular drinks, but there are times when only a Bloody Mary (heavy on the Tabasco) will do. Similarly, there are times when only a red nail varnish will do.

Sadly (and somewhat in contrast with the rest of the world), this isn’t one for me. I must have the darkest visible nail lines known to man but Vodka & Caviar didn’t give me the coverage I wanted. It would have taken four or five coats, or perhaps layering it over another shade, but who can be bothered with all of that faff? I’m pretty gutted that this didn’t work for me actually as OPI’s Russian collection is one of my absolute favourites and Vodka & Caviar is a something of a cult classic.

The shade itself is a slightly rusty, almost oxidised red. It leans more towards brown than blue or pink. perfect for cool-toned girls. It’s not a million miles away from Illamasqua Throb, which I’m sticking with for now as it gave me better coverage and opacity than Vodka & Caviar.

  1. Great post… I am on the search for a nice red polish (and lippy!) for my wedding day. I think this is a little too bright. Good to see it on your nails.

  2. I have much shorter nails than you but have very white tips too and loathe anything that leaves vnl, mainly because I bit my nails for years so my nail bed is very short, so I understand how you feel, shame though because its a lovely colour!

  3. This is a gorgeous red. Did you ever try Revlon’s Revlon Red? It’s a blue red & it’s a favorite of mine. An oldie but a goody. I expect a red to really cover your nails. Hope you find a good one.

  4. I’m hesitating to to do this because I know you don’t really get on with nails inc, but nails inc Tate is a super opaque red creme.

  5. Hello i was wondering if you would follow my blog? im a make up artist and im hoping to share my tips with the world. im also doin world wide gift give aways.. when i reach 100 followers but as im just starting im needing a little help. i love your blog.
