Long before I started reading people’s blogs, or even contemplating starting one myself, I experienced what I soon found out was known as a “lemming”.
I don’t know where I heard about this polish or even saw it, but somehow it seeped ito my consciousness and before I knew what was going on, my brain was telling me I had to have it. Several fruitless searches of local OPI stockists and eBay weren’t helping, and then eventually one happy, happy day, I managed to locate it in a gift pack on QVC, along with a couple of other polishes from the Holiday In Toyland collection.
And here it is. I am always disappointed when I put this on and remember what a mission it is, as this is
extremely sheer. It’s a shame, as this is a lovely polish, but for long nails, it is a three coater – maybe four. The consistency is thin, without being runny, and it reminds me of the pre-Big3-Free formula.
This isn’t silver – it is grey. Really dark slate grey with a metallic edge and tiny gold frosted flakes in it. The first time I wore this I was uncertain but I am on to about my third wear now and the more I wear it, the more I love it. Although this is a well-known polish in the blogging community, it still garners me lots of comments from people who don’t know its cult status. Not always good comments – some people love it, some aren’t so sure. It’s certainly unique though.
On a separate note, this is the closest I am going to get to having brand new skates. I can’t ice skate. Went once after being obsessed with the Noel Streatfield “White Boots” novel as a child, and was just getting the hang of it, gripping on to the edge for dear life, when all of a sudden, lights started flashing, music was pounding and a voice came over the tannoy announcing “ice disco…chaaaaange direction!” Balls. Oh yeah and then when I went to swap my skates for my shiny new trainers, I found out that some idiot in charge of the shoes had given mine to someone else, leaving me with a pair of uber scummy trainers that certainly did not belong to me.
I’ve not been back. I think I’ll just stick to having brand new skates on my fingers, thanks!

I adore this polish and wear it year round, but I’m surprised you describe it as a really dark grey, I don’t think it is. I see it as a dark silver, or a mid grey! I love the gold and green shimmer, it really makes this different, and I think it’s worth applying 3 coats.
Hmmmm maybe its pewter? I just expect silvers to be shinier somehow! I love the shimmer and flecks as well – this is a really unique polish and I love it.
It could be pewter! I love it, whatever colour it is! I’ve got Nails Inc Kingly Street on today for my work’s party, I think you’d like this one, definitely silver and sparkly!
Now that I think about it, polishes from this collection are some that I’ve been wanting pretty early into the game. I just started reading and having my own blog this year, but I remember when these came out, I just didn’t buy any.
Oh Helen, I am so sorry but this is an awful color. Obviously just my opinion but there’s something so ‘dead’ about it. That being said, I give you tremendous credit for trying so many, varied shades and colors. Tell me, have you used any of the new Creatives Color and Effects line – shimmer, sparkle or pearl layering shades? I recently went onto the Creative website and see they have changed their packaging and have these sheer shimmer/pearl shades that are either red based, blue based, gold based, etc…..specifically for use to layer over regular colors shades. I was so tempted to buy one but wondered if anyone else had tried one of them. http://www.cnd.com/Products/Color/Colour-Effect.aspx
Hi Beth,
Don’t be sorry – it’s not to everyone’s taste! As for the Creative polishes, we can’t get them in the UK at all. I love the look of them though. Have you checked out Vampy Varnish? Kelly wrote a review of them here:

PS I owe you an email – so sorry for the delay!
Loving this one 🙂
Ahhh… I was debating between this and “Oh baby its coal outside” when I placed my order on Tuesday night, I went with “Oh baby its coal outside” and “Holiday wishes” as you already know because you commented hehe thanks for that hunny, made my day seeing you had commented, you’re like my nail icon haha.
Anyway yeah, so I was torn. I really do like it now Ive seen it in the flesh, so to speak. Its just how I imagined it would be.
xxxx
Tis dull, this one. Best shade similar to this is My Private Jet although I am somewhat disappointed with my second bottle as the colour is not the same – no rainbow holographic-ness. I don’t know why either.
Its definitely more of a pewter….it has a rather rough looking texture to it!Quite like it……I don’t like shiny shiny metalics so it works for me! I have just remembered about a really nice coppery varnish I have lurking maybe its time to revisit it!
I have a lot from this collection – it is one of my favourite OPI collections of all time.
Ohhh that is really sweet, thankyou.
I think Baby It’s Coal Outside is a still fantastic…although I have both!
It’s a lot greyer than MPJ.
Ohhhh there are so many different versions of MPJ doing the rounds. There’s a whole hoo-hah about the random holo versions vs the flatter ones. I’m gutted for you that you had the holo that seized up. My one isn’t holo, it’s the flatter version, hence the reason I haven’t blogged on it yet.
It’s very smooth to the touch but I know what you mean.
I actually ordered and received the Creative ‘Effects’ polish in Violet Shimmer (looks like a very faint purple/white shimmer). I layered it over Little Red Wagon and did not like the effect at all. Completely changed this beautiful blood red to a sort of magenta pinky/red. I understand the concept of Creative’s ‘Effects” and I guess it’s just all trial and error to find out which shade of Effect (jade, blue, violet, red) works best over which solid colors. It actually might just look nice on the nail by itself as a little shimmer to the natural nail. Thanks for the link and info – it was really helpful!
