OK, first thing first. If your bare feet are this colour, regardless of whether you are wandering down Las Ramblas or not, there is something very wrong with you.

BarefootInBarcelona1Barefoot In Barcelona is from OPI’s Colección de España, new for Autumn. There’s been some rave reviews of the darker shades from this collection, but I haven’t seen a lot of love for this colour, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Application was absolutely wonderful. Two coats and it was totally opaque. BarefootInBarcelona4A layer of Seche Vite and the entire thing was dry in less than ten minutes. A thick creme, this gave me no issues at all.

Yet the colour is a little strange, isn’t it? A kind of dark, muted pink, with a bit of brown and salmon thrown in for good measure. Hmmm. I’m kind of on the fence. I am also not sure that it would do any favours for warm toned girls as it does seem to highlight any red in your skin.

Yet I’ve worn it for two days now and I have to say, it’s growing on me. Very subtle and work approprite, it’s not a bad colour or anything, and certainly different to anything OPI has produced before, yet it’s still somewhat unremarkable.

BarefootInBarcelona3I do like the fact that it isn’t majorly pink though. And if you’re going for the elastoplast look, then it’s perfect. Actually, now I see some sense in the name. Think you have a pair of perfectly worn-in shoes? Take them to a hot country and go walking about a bit, then think again. I distinctly remember trekking around Barcelona wishing I had some plasters (band aids) for my feet. So maybe it’s not that ridiculous after all.

So there we go. I can’t see this being a massive hit, but it’s perfectly ok. Plus it’s given me the chance to post some photos of our trip to Barcelona last year. I love it there – the architecture, the food, the sea… feast your eyes!

  1. I was so close to buying this shade in selfridges last week. It’s the one that caught my eye from thi collection- not quite sure why. It reminded my of kreme de la kremlin which I already have. I really like it! X

  2. I actually really like colours like this. Great for work (well my work) very inoffensive and still looks as though you have thought about what you want and made an effort. My favourite inoffensive colour has to be Supermodel by Leighton Denny….its my anytime, any place nail colour!

  3. Is it terrible that I saw your Barcelona pictures and thought: That’s the perfect place to take nail photos! What a wealth of sun and props!

Aside from similar nail length, we also have similar chest dimensions. I swear you are my doppleganger in parts.

My skin tone doesn’t quite work with the band-aid shades, but it you wear it beautifully. 🙂

  4. You’re right – I think it is a cross between Kreme de la Kremlin and Dulce de Leche – both of which I have but not blogged about yet.

  5. Thanks Kae – I love Barcelona. And the colour is good – the longer I’ve been wearing it the more it has grown on me.

  6. Not liking that one at all looks like an old Sindy doll colour after she has sat in a dirty cupboard for a month or two.

  7. The colour doesn’t do it for me, but I love the Barcelona pics – so jealous! Absolutely amazing architecture. It is definitely near the top of my Places I MUST Visit list.

  8. Aw, I love your Barcelona pictures! I was supposed to go there – next weekend! – for my annual overseas work trip but it got canceled this year. So I have to cover it from the office. Which from your pictures, is so not the same as being there *sigh*
I love this color because of all the crazy colors I own, this one offers me a great new color option for work travel. I’ll wear blues and greens to work, but not on the road or even in meetings I know about ahead of time. So I agree with you, this is very work appropriate!

  9. Love this shade on your nails. I don’t know about mine. Gorgeous pictures. A country I would like to visit. You are now part of triplets! We are the Internation Knockers.

  10. Thank for this review of BIB. I went out to buy this at a local salon and this was sold out from their Espana collection. 🙁 I will look elsewhere. I have been growing out my nails since have acrylics taken off and thought this would be a great, innocuous color to try that will make them look ‘finished’ but not draw attention to the stubs as I grow them. I love this blog. I have been a nail addict for many, many years and it’s nice to find a kindred spirit. Believe it or not, nearly EVERY woman I work with and know does not do her own nails, hates to polish them and will only get manicures at a salon. I LOVE doing my own nails!

  11. Oh no! I cannot believe you had a trip to Barcelona all sorted and it got cancelled 🙁 that is so sad.

I know what you mean – I can get away with any old colour in the office but as soon as I go out to meet the public (ie clients) I have to go in to work appropriate mode.

  12. Hi Beth, and thankyou for the feedback!

In answer to your other comments – I’ve never tried anything other than Nail Envy as it’s always worked well for me but I’ve used it for years so I’m open to ideas. Let me know if you find anything good.

And I’m glad you’re giving the liquid eyeliner a go! Good luck and I hope the tutorial helped!

I love doing my nails too. I am with you on the agony of growing out acrylic damage – it took me over a year to get shot of mine. Ugh. And now I’d never go back. I think I can do a much better (and cheaper) job than anyone in a salon anyway.

  13. This is one colour that looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL ON DARK SKINNED LADIES. hands down far superior to Tickle My Francey and Orly’s Country imo as a dark skinned gal who’s been on the hunt for some good nudes. the extra beigey/brown subtle undertones in this makes it perfect to compliment my complexion. It clearly doesnt suit everyone but its my new HG.

  14. Hi Rayrayray and welcome,

I bet this looks awesome on you. Have you tried Fiji Wijee Fawn by OPI? That’s a great brown toned nude as well.
