On The Fence About…No7 Opulence Highlighter

OpulenceHighlighter1I had a little bit of birthday money to spend today and so headed straight for Boots today. After all, it is possible to get a bit tired of London (when it is a couple of hours away on the train and I go there a lot).

This caught my eye. £13.00 later and it was bagged.

If No 7 wasn’t a British brand, I would totally have thought that the blurb had been translated from another language. Badly. It states:

“Richly textured and striking this is a look not to be missed and that can’t be ignored. A modern, metallic gold that takes influence from the Russian Tsarinas and 80s glamour the look is about stand-out beauty. Shimmering and alluring, sculpt and define your features to smouldering perfection…………you can’t be ignored in this make-up it has a power all of its own. Be on centre stage and steal the scene”.

You have no idea how much it pained me to type that out. Word for word. What a load of old badly punctuated cobblers!

AND look what occured when I touched it lightly to see what a little swatch would look like. I’m in shock!

OpulenceHighlighter2

That was with the lightest touch ever and it transpires the silver and pink parts are the tiniest amount of glitter just layered over the gold. I know it’s a highlighter not a shadow palette but still…..I feel a bit ripped off.

Thank goodness I am into gold shades at the moment, as I appear to have more than I bargained for. I adore the glitzy dark pink and that was one of the main reasons I bought this palette. What a swizz! I don’t dare swatch it properly for you as I won’t have any left!

Oh and a note on the packaging. This is a little compact with no applicator. It comes in an expensive looking cardboard box but the actual compact is made from gaudy gold plastic. It looks and feels tacky, light and cheap, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable pulling it out of my handbag in public.

I’m going to give this a go and see how I get on, after all, I can’t get enough of gold eyeshadow and nails right now, and who knows, I could end up loving it. But I have to be honest, first impressions are not good.

  1. I have a Revlon blush that had a gold design on it, which came away when I used it, but it has gold shimmer throughout the blush underneath where it was layered so hopefully you’ll find some of the colours still in with the gold when you use it. I’ve been curious about this myself so can’t wait to see what you say about it 🙂

  2. Hmmmm I can’t really be bothered – it is what it is, and companies overspray stuff all the time to make it look more appealing to suckers like me.

  3. I saw the tester of this in Boots yestaerday so I closed the lid to see the packaging – I see what you mean!! I couldn’t stop laughing

  4. Sometimes it pays to see past the packaging! It does what it says on the tin, it highlights and contours the cheekbones, and in my opinion, does it well. I agree, a touch anoying that it doesn’t remain the way it looked when you first bought it, but in all honesty, what bronzer, powder, highlighter does?
