A while back (yeah, in October…) we took a look at Nubar’s Gilded Gold and wondered what it would be like as a layering polish.
The short answer is that I think it layers well. Here we have it over another Nubar polish, Swiss Chocolate as I thought that the gold would look spectacular over the brown creme.
As it is, I think that the gold is maybe too thick,
or too streaky to layer in a thin and subtle way though.
You can see the dark brown peeking out from underneath and it does look shiny and, well, golden, but I can’t help thinking it also just looks a tad messy.
At least you can see the flakies better here. They stand out far, far better over a darker base than when I used Gilded Gold over a lighter base.
So what do you think? It’s nice to be able to use your collection to create
multiple lo0ks. Can you think of another shade or type of polish this gold would look good over?

I think that works quite well! That would be a great look for the festive season.
I went back to the original post where you put it over a nude. I loved that. You said you’d try it over green and that seems logical. Different greens. A really zingy lime as well as a mid-green. Not a blackish green though.
Or over yellow?
What about over a a lighter brown? Maybe something more beige/brown? Then again, for some reason a deep purple base comes to mind as well. Or, maybe it’s best as a stand alone? Personally, I’ve tried layering my polishes and not had very good results. 🙁 I think it’s a matter if trial and error with a lot of error. And once in a while you get an unexpected and pleasant surprise!
That looks great ! These 2 colors work great together ! If you want another color, maybe try use it on some sort of green….maybe olive green….
And of course, I joined your google friends 🙂 And you’re welcome to join mine if you want.
Deep purple sounds good. Also a navy, or a rich-vampy burgundy.
I can see what you mean about the messiness but it looks very luxurious nonetheless.
I agree with Tuli that a dark green would look lovely under it, it’d provide more of a contrast so might show through more too? x
I like it – I think it looks kind of antique-y.
SNS! xD
Ooh, pretty! I’m sure dark was the better choice for this. I’m on a huge layering kick, I’ve been trying all kinds of experiments – it’s given me double the manicures, nothing wrong with that!
Love the look of this. Makes me think of chocolates in gold foil. Love to see this over China Glaze Wagon Trail. Since Mary started putting Sally Hansen’s Hidden Treasure over everything I’ve been trying it. Great layering polish.
