Nearly two years ago now, I wrote a post about Max Factor Masterpiece Max mascara. To this day, it is still one of our most-read posts, and it is still my best loved mascara, even after well over two years of blogging and trying new things. You can read it here.
However, Boots were having a 3-for-2 the other day and whilst picking up a new tube of Masterpiece Max, I decided in the name of research to test out a couple of other Max Factor mascaras. So, step forward Max Factor Xperience Volume, and Max Factor False Lash Effect Fusion.
Let’s look at False Lash Effect Fusion (£11.99) first. In all my experience of applying mascara, I know that I prefer a mascara when it has dried out a little bit – soaking wet from a new tube does nothing for me. Thankfully, Max Factor’s formula is thicker than most, so you don’t feel like you’re just coating your lashes with oil. This arrives in a big fat tube, with a big fat brush. I found the brush to be a bit unwieldy at first and not very good for getting precise application but I got used to it.

It takes a while to apply but does layer up beautifully. I waited until each coat was semi dry before whacking a load more on, and what you see here is about three coats. This stayed put all day and was an utter breeze to remove. I really like the length it gave me and with a bit of wiggling the wand, there was zero clumping.
Max Factor Xperience Volume (£10.99) was the other mascara that caught my eye on the shelf. The packaging is sleeker and more attractive, and also the brush is smaller and less bristly than False Lash Fusion. And it’s a whole £1.00 cheaper!

I really like this mascara. It takes longer to build than False Lash Fusion as seems to be a little bit thinner and less silky, but I far and away prefer the results. I have long-ish eyelashes anyway, and I prefer a bit of volume. Xperience gave me just that – fluttery lashes that were fatter and defined. It’s a devil to remove though as it is much sticker than False Lash Fusion.
So there we are. Any thoughts? Are you a fan of Max Factor mascara, or tempted to try either of these?
