Well well. I saw an advert on tv on Friday night for new Max Factor Masterpiece eyeshadows, and something inside me felt very sad. Normally I would be ordering them straight away, but as you know, I’m on a boring old no-buy right now.
So imagine my delight when I stepped into Boots yesterday to get some more Masterpiece Max mascara (no-buys don’t count when we’re talking about every day essentials) and I saw that they were running an offer whereby for every Masterpiece Mascara you bought, you got a free eyeshadow. Red rag to a bull, anyone?
As you can see, I bought three. But I figured it was still a good deal as that’s me sorted for mascara for the next three months, and I get to try out something that in all honesty I’d probably have ended up buying anyway.

I was good (ha!) and left the pink and the silver ones in the shop. But they looked nice too.
Now then. The packaging is ok. Nothing special, and I am certain that it is identical to their lipglosses of a few years ago. Exactly the same. Which could lead to some embarrassment if you are someone who likes to reapply lip gloss after a drink or two. No-one wants Golden Green lips. Honestly.
The wand is spongy and very flexible, meaning no scraping and scratching as it goes on your eyelid. And they are very smooth and creaseless. I’ve been wearing a combination of Golden Green and Coffee all day and it still looks great, no slippage or melting. Pearl Beige is really light and shimmery and I think it would be best as a highlighter….although I can see me mainly putting it to good use as a primer I’m afraid. A wee bit pale for me. So, in summary, my conclusion is that they could do with a touch more pigment, but for an everyday look they are perfect and so easy to use. Definitely get them whilst they’re free!
And if you didn’t need any more convincing that Masterpiece Max is unequivocally The Best mascara out there, here’s some freaky eyes for you.
