Illamasqua Poke

Is anyone else a bit bored of Facebook? A year or so I was totally obsessed, online all the time to see what people were up to and enjoying looking at their photos and generally being nosey! But since it was banned at work and I started this blog, Facebook doesn’t have as much allure. I hate people throwing sheep at me, constantly inviting me to play Mafia Wars, and sending me virtual cocktails. If you want to buy me a pina colada, ask me out for a proper drink and talk to me, like you would a normal friend. Just don’t bring a sheep or a uzi.

So. This wasn’t intended to be an anti-Facebook rant as I do like status updates (making me think I’d be better off on Twitter) and the birthday reminders are handy. I can’t be doing with Poking though. Leave my virtual ribs alone and send me an email or give me a call.

poke2Poke is another of Illamasqua’s extremely popular purple polishes.

For some reason I forgot to get a bottle shot, but you can see it clearly enough here.

This is extremely pretty and unique. It is a light vivid purple, with a red-toned base, making it very bright. Not neon, but remarkably eye-catching.

Application was so-so. Illamasqua polishes usually only require two coats, but this one was three, in order to smooth it out and eliminate the bald spots. Dryingg time was average – not as fast as their creme polishes.

I love the silver sheen that this has – it makes it completely unique. It also has red, silver, blue and green poke1shimmer all through it – with the result that it totally shines and glows. I love it. It is nice to see a light purple that is so rich with shimmer as it is usually the dark purples that have these kinds of effects.

And as for Facebook? I’m keeping my real friends. The deal is that I’m not adding or accepting anyone I wouldn’t say hi to on the street, or go for a drink with. I’m beyond showing off how many “friends” I have.  Enough with the jiggery-pokery.

  1. Good colour but Illamasqua is so expensive. There are loads more polishes I’d rather get. Nubars or even Nfu.oh.

  2. Hi Helen! I love Poke, so pretty.

I am kinda over Facebook also. I LOATHE those stupid games, and hate that certain people feel the need to constantly post everything they do with those games on everyone’s page.

I am obsessed with Twitter though, and think you need to jump on the bandwagon 🙂 It’s actually incredibly useful to a blogger, you find out so much information about upcoming colors and brands, and meet so many other bloggers, and people who work at polish companies. It’s quite fun!

  3. This is lovely but I’m disappointed to hear it’s a 3 coater, as my only other light purple, MAC Violet Fire, also is.

  4. That is a lovely purple! As for poking, most people get one response from me and that’s it. The only person who gets repeat back and forth poking is my boyfriend! I tend to tease him about his long list of unreturned pokes though…

  5. Oh no. I’ve resisted Illamasqua up until now but this colour might be enough to lure me over…. I LOVE IT!!
I’m the same with facebook. I used to be on it all the time but now I just go on occasionally to read people’s status updates. Twitter is much better!!

  6. I think a lot depends on how long your nails are. I think shoerter ones could def get away with two coats. I like this MILES better for application than Violet Fire.

  7. I can’t believe you have held out for so long! Well Done!

Hmmmm I am going to check Twitter out I think…

  8. I believe I have 5 of this brand now! Looks like I need a sixth. I bought them when Sephora had a sale. Love this shade. I have a Twitter account but never or rarely use it. I’m awful. I also have Facebook and now I remember why I’m so behind reading blogs. I hadn’t been on it for a long time. My cousin keeps giving me these stickers, pets, hearts and all kinds of crap. I was nice and returned all of that junk. Then I found more cousins who also sent me stuff. I have to check out the pictures of their kids and so on. Next thing you know 4 hours have gone by. Ugh! When I first got Twitter I was on that all day. I can’t even manage to keep up with the blogs! I hope you can do much better than me. I won’t poke you on Facebook or any other thing!
