You’re about to get inundated with holographic polishes from around the blogosphere as Nubar are releasing their Prisms collection into the UK towards the end of this month. So I thought I’d better get this post in now, before you’re pig sick of holographic polishes (if such a thing is possible).
So. I’d heard good things about H&M polishes, so when I went shopping in the sales last month, I thought it would be rude not to try a couple of these high street polishes out.
The range in H&M isn’t bad actually – a few reds and pinks, plus a purple, a brown, a blue and a nude (some of which also came home with me – stay tuned for
those), plus what looked like a pink holo (which I didn’t get for some reason), and this one, Creme de la Creme.
This, sadly, looks more exciting in the bottle than it did on the nail. It tries soooo hard to be a holo but I guess I’ve been ruined by the gorgeous China Glaze OMG collection, or the OPI Designer Series, as for me, this just didn’t cut it.
It doesn’t have the lines and curves you expect to see in a holographic polish – this is more like a very nice smooth polish with priasmatic shimmer rather than the holo effect. If I’d never tried a holographic polish before, I would think this was the best thing since sliced bread, but sadly it just left me wishing for more.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a noble effort for £3.99 (for 11ml), and the brush and application was superb. This was three coats, and provided you wait for the coats to be dry inbetween applications, I had no dragging either.
So, in conclusion, if you want a flashy holographic polish, stick to China Glaze. If you want a subtle and pretty shimmer for half the price, then head off to H&M!

This would have been perfect for Christmas, not bad for the price either. Must check them out.
xxx
I like it and it’s a very good price. It’s not a holo though. But thanks for this because I will definitely check these out.
I love holos but I hate the way you have to wait ages between coats so they don’t drag. None of my holos apply easily. Boo.
Hmmm, it’s quite nice, but I don’t think I’ll be buying nail polish from H&M. I’m such a polish snob! It would take something really special to make me get a £3.99 polish.
wow! this gold nail polish is gorgeous!
Helen, as an aside…..I have to ask, how do your nails survive with such frequent polish changes? I try not to take mine off more than twice a week to keep the chemicals off the nails (remover)…..just curious how yours stay so strong despite lots of changes. You must have great nail genetics!!!!
Ahhhh sorry Jo – I had a really hard time trying to decide which polishes to choose for my December posts! Plus I didn’t buy it til I went sale shopping. Ah well – get one in for Christmas 2010!
Ahhh you need patience for holo application. It’s not bad for a budget polish though.
Ha! I didn’t think this would convince you to go “high street”!
Hi Camila and thankyou!
Hi Beth,
I wash my hands straight after using remover so hope that it doesn’t sink in too much. I have just broken one rather badly though so it’s not foolproof!

I have never tried a H&M polish before. I always wanted to check them out but forget about it. 🙁
The nail polish looks beautiful but its sad that it looks like a holo in the bottle but like shimmer on the nails. 🙁

Who knew an H&M colour could look so nice!
I actually quite like the subtle gold. That looks pretty on your nails too.
Looks lovely on you but doesn’t look like a holo. A bad break, oh no! Is it back to the tea bags?
