When GOSH brought out their holographic polish, I could not get my hands on it. It was discontinued following complaints about its longevity but the demand for it meant it was going for ridiculous prices on eBay. So when the Swedish brand Make-Up Store were offering Greta, an identical dupe, it was a cheaper option to the ebay hiked up prices.
Now GOSH have re-issued their most sought-after polish – Holographic Hero – and it’s permanent. I was sent a sample to try and I thought I would do a quick comparison post on these holographic polishes.
Looking their bottles alone, if they weren’t clearly marked I could not tell which was which. However, application distinguishes the difference. The Make-Up Store one was thick and opaque in one coat but I had to layer it over a special base coat (called Aqua Fix) which enhances the holographic-ness. Without it the polish doesn’t work.
Meanwhile GOSH’s version needed two coats as it was very thin but I wore it over naked nails (no base coat and definitely no top coat or you’ll lose the effect).

A major complaint about GOSH was its excessive chipping after a day and that still remains the case so they have marked it as ‘One Night Wear for holographic lovers’. To be fair it is more about how impressive it looks rather than how long it lasts. Let’s face it, who would want to wear this for several days?
GOSH is much more favourable on the purse at just £4.99. For what it’s worth, the Make-Up Store’s Greta is very expensive at £11 plus you need Aqua Fix which is also £11 and that bumps up the cost of a polish that barely lasts 24 hours to a massive £22. When both polishes are on a par, there are no prizes for guessing what everyone will choose.
GOSH’s Holographic Hero is now available in all Superdrug stores while The Make-Up Store’s Greta can be bought from their UK branches (sadly only two currently open and they are both in London).
