Over a year ago I penned my thoughts on Estee Lauder’s Double Wear foundation. You can read the post for this right here. What I didn’t elaborate on was how I was colour matched three times (twice at The Estee Edit shop and once at the Estee Lauder ‘Foundation the Nation’ campaign event). I was recommended Wheat once and Honey Bronze twice, and I decided to go with the latter. I was also matched in the winter so I would have been at my fairest. According to Temptalia’s foundation matrix, which is often a very reliable source, Honey Bronze was the correct match in line with my matches from MUFE, Mac, etc.
However, I became slightly bothered with my Double Wear match, noticing it was a lot warmer than my other foundations. After chatting to Shahleena (whom I share most base matches with), that alarm bells were ringing when she revealed her Double Wear match was Cashew.
I love the results of Double Wear so there were no issues there, but it was very apparent I needed to matched again, if not for peace of mind. I approached the Estee Lauder stand in Liverpool Street’s branch of Boots (incidentally the most comprehensively stocked Boots for a myriad of beauty and skincare) and cut to the chase. The lady serving me pulled out Wheat, Cashew and Honey Bronze, and when all three were swatched, Honey Bronze appeared more golden than the other two. Wheat still had some coolness to it so it was a no-brainer – Cashew was the one with warm, yellow undertones that matched my skin tone. Suffice to say I am happy with Cashew.
And there we have it. I got it wrong or I was led to believe I was a particular shade. It’s got me thinking about getting re-matched with other brands, more so because foundations have been reformulated with more shades added and also because skin tone changes over the years. I have an unopened bottle of Honey Bronze (I’ve been through two prior) which I will hold onto for the summer or possibly add white drops to lighten it.
Double Wear comes in a 30ml glass bottle and now costs £33.50. You can get hold of it from Estee Lauder, Debenhams, Boots and other freestanding Estee Lauder counters.
