Cooling off in the summer with an ice cold drink is one of life’s simplest pleasures but if alcohol is not your vice, what alternatives are there? Well Fentimens fills the void between booze and fizzy drinks, earning its status as the original adult soft drink. You may have noticed the name when scanning the drinks chiller in the supermarket. Fentimans does make pre-mixed alcoholic drinks and beers but it is the rich variety of soft beverages in their classic glass bottles that is hard to miss.
I’m a fan of Fentimens’ botanical drinks, particularly Curiosity Cola, Rose Lemonade and Victorian Lemonade. Their beverages have a strong taste to them thanks to the traditional botanical brewing method used but unlike fizzy drinks masked with sugar, Fentimens prides itself on using natural ingredients which truly tickle the taste buds and linger beyond.
The newest addition to their line-up is Sparkling Lime with Jasmine*. As the name suggests, this drink initially hits you with sharp citrus taste followed by a real depth of flavour from the botanical sweetness of Hyssop, Lime Flower and Juniper Berries, and not forgetting the aftertaste of white jasmine flowers. It’s a pretty complex flavouring but a light drink that’s abundantly refreshing and perfect for the summer time. I don’t drink at all and I don’t think I am missing out though I understand many consumers who are limiting their intake of alcoholic drinks (or even abstaining totally) for a healthier lifestyle think Fentimans’ is a decent alternative to the hard stuff in a grown-up kind of way.
Fentimans drinks can be found in farm shops, delicatessens, restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets like Tesco and Waitrose, convenience stores and other retailers worldwide. Currently this flavour doesn’t appear to be available through the usual shopping outlets, however you can get a crate of 12 275ml bottles for £12.99 from Drink Supermarket.
