Essie Amalfi

I don’t seem to review a lot of Essie on here, do I? I have about ten bottles, which I suppose in the whole scheme of my collection is not really a lot. I don’t know why I’m not drawn to buy any more – perhaps because I find the bottle and application a bit fiddly with my big old nails.

I first saw Amalfi on someone’s blog a few years ago and immediately loved it. I then spent a good six months or so trying to track it down as it is a discontinued shade. I eventually found a bottle on US eBay and bought it. It didn’t cost me a fortune but I probably paid more than I should have done for it. Especially since I don’t actually like it. Oh dear.

It is a very delicate gold shade that takes a million coats to reach any kind of opacity. I persevered with it on my little finger, but that resulted in a gungy manicure that would have taken hours to dry. I just think that the semi-sheer gold looks a bit funny somehow. It has that kind of Nars Orgasm look to it – ie really pretty but a bit strange.

What do you think? Have you ever gone chasing a lemming only to realise it looks terrible on you?
