Clinique recently launched Aromatics in Black*, the latest fragrance to join its Aromatics range and aptly dressed for winter, it’s comes in a striking black bottle. I actually fell under its spell from the moment I sprayed it on my wrist in the Clinique boutique in Covent Garden a few weeks ago and knew I just had to have it in my possession.
Aromatics in Black is a deliciously exotic oriental floral scent. There is also Aromatics in White but when it comes to picking sides, I’m drawn to team Black.
With its sleek and elegant looking bottle, you’d expect this to be a powerfully strong scent like Dior’s Pure Poison but it’s surprisingly light-wearing. The top notes are fruits; middle notes are jasmine and osmanthus and base notes are myrhh and vetiver. Mesmerising. And that’s where it stops.
Unfortunately the scent does not last, in fact it fades fast and I can’t understand why it’s so weak for a perfume. I must have spritzed it on 4-5 times in one day, which is unusual and a real shame because it is a gorgeous smell. For the price tag it commands, it is all the more disappointing.
Aromatics in Black is also available as a limited edition scented candle, and I’ve a feeling the scent is going to be better in candle form and the perfect aroma for winter too. Well, I really hope so. I’ll need to pop back to the Clinique boutique to double-check.
Aromatics in Black is available in 50ml and 100ml, priced at £55 and £78 respectively from www.clinique.co.uk.
