China Glaze Tinsel - Just Nice Things

China Glaze Tinsel

Read Time:1 Minute, 37 Second

Well, if this doesn’t jingle your festive bells, I don’t know what will!

Tinsel is a fantastic silver glitter from last year’s “Loves You Snow Much” Holiday collection. I thought with all the furore over the “Tis The Season…” collection from this year that it might be nice to rmember an older polish. Although I have to say, I made a conscious effort not to feature Emerald Sparkle and Ruby Pumps this year (although I confess I wore Ruby Pumps to my office Chrismas party).

Tinsel is a sheer silver glitter. Used alone, it doesn’t really have a lot of impact, and won’t really build into anything substantial. And to be honest, unless you are a small schoolgirl, I don’t really think that sheer glitter is that good a look. Give me opaque impact, any day of the week.

So what we have here is three coats of Tinsel, over a co-ordinating base coat – in this case, I used My Face Cosmetics Lil’ Bling in Silver Screen for the principal reason that it goes on effortlessly and dries in seconds. Win.

I always wish that sparkle translated well to photographs. Because this looks kind of foily here, but in person, there’s no real escaping the fact that this is a glitter. It flashes and sparkles and is really beautiful. I didn’t actually think that anything was going to top Illamasqua Harsh as my favourite silver glitter, but Tinsel comes close.

I like Harsh as it is great for adding silver glitter gradients to boring polish (somthing you’ll have seen a lot of on this blog) but Tinsel is a better polish for a full manicure as it is lighter, brighter and the glitter particles are more square, whereas Harsh always reminds me of iron filings.

Isn’t it gorgeous? Utterly perfect for this time of year. What do you think?

Helen

I did love the effect of this! It was underappreciated so I’m glad you featured it. Unusual silver glitter, for me.

I have all the colors from last year. I really like Tinsel. I disagree that it’s not a good look and doesn’t make an impact alone. I think it’s a pretty sheer color that an adult could wear. That’s how I wear it and someone said they liked it out of the blue.

If it doesn’t work skintone may have more to do with that than age.

I also feel that sheer colors go unloved. Some look amazing alone They also make great top colors for layering.

That’s really pretty. Looks like a glittery explosion on your nails. Good idea layering this. I was so disappointed when I used it. Now I know what to do with it. I don’t know why I forget to layer polish.
