It feels like five minutes ago that I was sitting on a train to London in January of this year, looking at some leaked photos of this collection. Yep, no sooner had the glitter of Christmas 2010 been hoovered up but we were already seeing teaser photos of this collection. I remember being excited about the prospect of a new red glitter (because I cannot resist a red glitter) but then putting it to the back of my mind.
And now, fast forward 10 months, and here we are. Amazing eh? Where does the time go? At this rate I’ll be 70 years old and still hunting out those elusive OPIs. Best not to dwell on that though. Let’s take a look at the polishes I chose from this collection.
The collection is 12 strong, as per usual, and is a mix of glitters, cremes and foily metallics. Thankfully the whole collection didn’t call to me, so this is what came home with me from my little jaunt to Sally’s today (yesterday, as you read this).
Tinsel Town. I don’t remember seeing anything like this before. It is a greyer, more gunmetal version of some of the glitters from the Metro collection. A smoky base jelly with two different sizes of silver glitter. Super sparkly and a little bit alternative to the usual festive cheer. Two coats.
Blue Year’s Eve. Also known as an utter devil to photograph. This is really striking. A thin light blue jelly which is packed with glass fleck of a range of different blue shades. I wasn’t expecting this to be as sparkly as it was in sunlight so it was a real pleasant surprise. Three coats, this is a little on the runny side.
Glittering Garland. I don’t know whether it is just because it is getting near to the festive season or what, but I absolutely love this shade. And you know me, I don’t really do green. But this I make an exception for. A yellow toned forest green jelly with gorgeous and visible yellow and green shimmer. Gorgeous. Two coats – this had the best formula of the ones I tried.
Ring In The Red. Ker-pow. Red glitter. I adore this. I have many red glitters but there is always room for more in my collection. I remember last Christmas putting on a red glitter and having it not shift from my nails until New Years Eve. I really look forward to December when I can start wearing my red glitters again. This is fabulous. A thin pink toned jelly base, with two different sized glitter pieces. They’re the same colour though so it doesn’t trigger my OCD about multi-sized glitters. It shimmers and sparkles like nothing else – my camera went mad trying to photograph this because of the glow. This is three thick coats for swatching – when I wear this I will layer it over a red creme base.
Twinkle Lights. It’s bonkers, isn’t it? I think I frankened something like this in the past. Gold, red and green glitter, it’s like Christmas just threw up on my nails (and I mean that in a good way, honestly). It’s totally over the top and there’s probably only one or two days of the year that I’d wear this, although I am contemplating it for an office Christmas party pedicure. Twinkle Lights is super sheer and I found it really hard to build, so you see it here layered over Glittering Garland.
