Firstly, apologies for these photos. I’ve established that the macro function on my camera makes everything appear redder than it is, so these are non-macro, hideously blurry shots, but at least it gives true colour representation. There are far better pics of this on other blogs, so if you’re intrigued, I suggest you Google it.

Cowgirl Up1Secondly, I am typing this sloooowly. I had the worst nail break ever this morning (middle finger, right hand). Entire thing ripped off at the bottom of the free edge. It didn’t hurt but losing 1.5 centimetres of nail was a bit of a shock. Thankfully it was hanging on by a thread so rather than removing it (which would have been the most sensible option), I’ve silk powdered over the entire thing.

I didn’t do toooo bad a job, but it’s a tad lumpy and bumpy. I’ve also had to trim a fair amount off all my nails as I wanted to cut the broken one down to prevent it bending and creating extra pressure. Anyway, you’ll see my new, shorter, lumpier nails in upcoming posts. Bet you can’t wait!

So, on to the main event. Cowgirl Up. This is a gorgeous polish from China Glaze’s Rodeo Diva collection. I know a lot of you out there love this collection, and I agree.cowgirlup3

A fab, rich, wine- maroon colour, this was practically opaque in one coat, but I did two just to even it up. I know it’s a nail blogger cliche, but this reallt is one of those “lit from within” polishes. Darker down the sides, but with an amazing hit of gold and red glimmer (not quite glitter) in the centre.

Application was ok – I had a fair amount of clean-up to do, but it seems to be par for the course with some of these darker colours – less margin for error.

Cowgirl Up2Here’s the close-up. Utterly fabulous. The boyfriend picked this one out for me to wear, above several new Illamasquas, so you know it’s a good one. In fact, I ended up wearing it for about four days, with zero chipping or tipwear. Yeeehah!

Now you’ll never believe this but I’ve just done a hot pink manicure with one of the Ciate polishes I was sent. And I quite like it. It’s coming up next….

  1. Me too! It’s practically unheard of for me to wear one colour for more than a couple of days.

  2. I’m getting there but I always feel like I’m pretending to be grown up when I wear a red, especially a proper red red!

  3. Red looks fantastic on you! This was one of my favorite collections from China Glaze, not a bad one in the lot. Looking forward to you in your favorite ‘pink’ 🙂

  4. Ha! I didn’t know! Good taste 😉

I’ve taken pics of DV8 by the way so can add them in to your review when you post it up!

  5. First off, your poor nail! I’m so sorry you broke it. I don’t know how you manage to patch them up. I just chop them off. You have to much length to do that. When I got on this page I just said woo oh, appropriate for this polish. That is one gorgeous manicure. I love that collection also. It is a beautiful color. One that you keep staring at. I just used a Sally Hansen Extreme Lime Lights. You’d think it would be lime colored, but no. It is a gorgeous opal, with blue and green flash. It’s just gorgeous! I stopped four times now to admire my own nails. Nuts! I hope your nail stays on. That’s really a bad break. So sorry for that.
