A happy thing happened to me today. There has been a little nagging voice at the back of my head for a year or so now, reminding me that I had done something unforgiveable and actually lost a box containing several Chanel nail varnishes.
Imagine my delight when it turned up out of the blue today. My old polish collection! Before I started collecting OPI. All my Chanels, plus a couple of Rimmels, a NYX, and an old school Barry M. Was there ever such a day when I only owned eight nail polishes? Apparently so.
Well, considering this hasn’t seen the light of day for a good year or so, it shaped up pretty nicely. Red Dream was a birthday gift about three years ago, and it’s really stood the test of time.
Application was good, but this is airly sheer. It took three coats over a thick layer of ridge filler before it looked roadworthy. But my goodness, it’s worth it.
A gorgeous maroon-y red jelly containing flecks of bright red and pink shimmer. It’s perfectly smooth, so not glitter so much as tiny, weeny glass flecks.
Why didn’t I show this as much love before? It’s simply gorgeous. No bottle shot I am afraid as I couldn’t get one that didn’t blur the writing on the bottle (it’s dark at about 16:00 these days).
All in all, I’m wary of Chanel’s wear. I remember them chipping rather badly on me in the past. I’m planning on giving myself a few days off blogging over Xmas (sorry ladies) so will be doing some research and testing of Chanel longevity during this time.
I had this on for one day and by the end it was fraying round the edges a bit, and was looking a bit…well, greasy, despite using topcoat. But still, I love the colour, and just look how perfect it is for the festive season.
How about you? Do you rate Chanel nail polish? How does it last on you?

This is similar to Gondola that came out this year. I find that Chanel polishes never live up to their price tag. Are they £16.50 here now? Every now and then they produce a lovely colour that makes me think I can justify the price, but the application is never as good as OPI, and I have a few where the outside cap has cracked! You expect it to stay in one piece when you pay that much! But this colour is gorgeous.
I’ve only got 2 chanel’s- black satin& vendetta. I’ve only tried vendetta so far but it was so opaque& dark( the actual colour is a dark purple) that you can only see its actuall colour in direct sunlight. I don’t think that it chipped fast- maybe because I layered orly’s prisma gloss silver over it& then a coat of seche vite.
I really love that shade, and of course the shimmer just adds to it! Chanel’s don’t wear all that well on me, not terrible, but certainly nothing that great. But I still love them for some reason, so I overlook it and use a good top coat, then all is good.
Loving the colour, never tried Chanel polishes though so don’t know how long they last!
I’m the only one who doesn’t own any Chanel’s. Boo hoo. This is a gorgeous polish on you. What a beautiful shade of jelly red. Looks like currant jelly.
God, are they really that much now?? I would never spend that on a Chanel polish. It’s just not worth it.
I don’t have many – I think most of mine have been gifts. I’ve seen photos of Vendetta and like it but not enough to feel the need to go out and buy it.
I know you love your Chanel! You are right – a decent topcoat goes a long way!
It is lovely….I have found a duplicate of it by Maybelline though for a fraction of the price, so stay tuned for that.
It’s a great colour but easily copied by cheaper brands.
[…] think this is a dupe for Ruby Pumps, but it’s not a million miles away from the Chanel Red Dream I showed you a couple of weeks ago. This rated quite high on Make-Up Alley with a lot of people […]
