Weddings are fun but big fat Asian weddings are something else – bold, bright and larger than life. I make no apologies for being bias here – Asian weddings blow other nuptials out of the water. Outfits are colourful and sparkly and make-up and hair is on point.
This Easter I saw my friend tie the knot and it was a privilege to be part of the momentous occasion. Good food, cake and everyone – and I mean everyone (aunties and uncles the most!) – was on the dance floor before the main course had been served.
I bought my dress from a designer called Aamir Baig in Karachi, which I absolutely love. I was a tad nervous about what to do with my make-up because it had to compliment the outfit and that meant bold eyes and lips. I was worried that with one false move I would look like a tranny.
My beloved Hourglass liquid lipstick Icon served as the perfect red shade. Daniel Sandler’s Watercolour Fluid Blusher in Glamour added a flush of colour to the cheeks and Illamasqua’s Gleam in Aurora acted as a highlighter. For the base, I went for Illamasqua’s Skin Base in No12 in partnership with Hydra Veil.
For the eyes I blended Avon’s Supershock Gel Eyeliner in black along the lash line and outer corners, Illamasqua’s Precision Gel Liner in Infinity on the lash line, Inglot’s Eyeliner Gel in gold (No 95) as a base on the lids and packed the Body Shop’s Colour Crush eyeshadow in Gorgeous Gold on top with the dark brown shade from Daniel Sandler’s Beyond Sunset quad blended in the crease. I also added a tiny bit of Illamasqua’s Liquid Metal in Surge in the inner corners.
Finally I finished off with Eylure Naturalites lashes (No 161). I can only apologise as one seems to be making a break for freedom in the picture below. Do forgive me, this was taken at the end of the evening after nine hours wear and a drive back from Southampton to London:
The sad thing is I don’t get to play around with make-up and bold looks as much as I used. This wedding injected some fun back into what make-up should be about and I have realised I must make more time for it. Who knows, I might share some more looks on the blog…
