The quest to find the ultimate long-lasting, non-peeling, non-drying, highly pigmented liquid lipstick will just keep going but one name that is a decent contender for the accolade is The Balm with Meet Matt(e) Hughes.
There are 12 shades available in the range but The Balm has put together a limited edition miniature set of its six top-selling shades, a great way to get better acquainted with Matt(e).
At £25, each one works out at £4.16 each and the size of these liquid lipsticks makes them handy and convenient to carry around in your make-up bag but also they are realistically feasible to use up without going to waste and ending up in a landfill somewhere.
In a rare occurrence, all six shades are totally wearable for me, which is fantastic as often I have to ditch at least two shades in these multi-packs which are ghastly against my skin tone. The selection is warm and rich tones ranging from pinkish nudes to post-box red and would suit most skin tones but particularly women of colour.
Check out the names!
- Charming – a dusky pink rose
- Sincere – lighter than Charming
- Committed – a pinkish rose
- Doting – a nude coral
- Dedicated – a rich berry
- Loyal – a deep and vibrant red

These guys won’t let a girl down. The deeply pigmented formula leaves a comfortable matte finish, doesn’t feel dry or tacky and is infused with a vanilla mint scent, which quickly disperses. It’s certainly passes the coffee mug and eating-a-croissant stages without coming off one smidge. In fact I did struggle with the Bioderma to wipe these swatches off. Honestly this pack will tease you so much that you’ll be wanting to supersize.
I am slowly working my way around The Balm’s range, which offers exceptional quality and is cruelty-free, paraben-free and made in the USA. Put your trust in The Balm – you won’t regret it.
I ordered The Balm’s Meet Matt(e) Hughes Mini Kit from Feelunique but it’s also stocked by Superdrug where it’s currently available for £21.50. Lookfantastic sells these liquid lipsticks in full size.
