What could be better than a cleansing balm? A cleansing balm with bits. Work with me here as I tell you about a new skincare saviour I’ve been using for a few weeks. It’s cruelty-free and it’s British.
Founded by dermatology expert Claire Vero in 2013, Aurelia is a scientifically-proven, natural, evidence-based skincare line which works by helping to manage the level of inflammation within the skin, the main cause of skin ageing.
Amongst its range is the Refine & Polish Miracle Balm, a cleansing balm that gently polishes the skin, transforming dull, rough, congested and lacklustre complexions into glowing visages. It also doubles up as an enzyme mask to deeply exfoliate.
The balm contains camomile, rosemary, bergamot and also eucalyptus which strongly stands out in the scent. You apply it to dry skin, using your fingers to massage and dislodge dry skin cells before adding a few drops of water to emulsify the balm which releases the skin-brightening BioOrganic oils (these turn the balm into a milk when it comes into contact with water). You then rinse it off though I prefer to wipe off the excess with a warm flannel.
It is safe enough to use once a day, either in the morning or evening and suitable for all skin types including sensitive. As a mask it can be used up to 3-4 times a week, leaving it on for 5 minutes. I’ve tried both methods and definitely prefer it as a daily exfoliator. I noticed my face looked radiant immediately after one use and felt so soft to touch.
The balm is luxurious, both as a product and by price. A 75ml tube will set you back by £57 so we are talking high-end skincare here. Now I have tried some expensive skincare products which have disappointed me greatly and aren’t worth the price they retail for. This one isn’t as ridiculously priced when you pay attention to the fact it’s made in England (which makes a nice change!). Realistically it’s not a product I can bring myself to buy regularly because it costs nearly £60 and to me that is somewhat excessive for a facial exfoliator. It’s more of a treat to indulge in occasionally and use sparingly.
I’ve also been using a trial size of Aurelia Probiotic Skincare’s Revitalise & Glow Serum, which is nothing short of divine. It’s a lightweight, anti-ageing serum that easily absorbs into the skin, fusing Aurelia Probiotic Skincare’s technology with BioOrganic plant and flower essences to revitalise the skin with a delicate blend of Jasmine, Plumeria, Tuberose and Mandarin. I won’t go into detail with all the probiotics, peptides and antioxidants it contains because like most people, it doesn’t matter greatly so long as it works.
A 30ml bottle costs £47, which funnily enough is the price point I expect a decent serum to cost. Of course there are other serums that command a much higher fee which is why £47 strikes me as pretty reasonable.
