A public service announcement from Sheenie

10/10/10 will certainly be a memorable date for me…for a disastrous reason.

I accidentally knocked a glass of water onto my MacBook.  The laptop is working fine on its battery but it’s not charging from the mains so when the battery dies…well, you know the score.  I’m currently trying out a few things to remedy the crisis (as advised by my friend who works for Apple) and will hold out for the week but if those fail, I stand to fork out at least £400 for Apple to fix it.   It’s a cost I could do without when I’d planned to use that money elsewhere but getting my Macbook restored to working order is a priority, which means there may be a delay in getting new posts done for Just Nice Things.

The biggest issue is editing my photos, which I shoot in RAW format and can only edit them on the Mac.  There are some images already shot that will have to be postponed to a later date for publication (apologies to Nars in particular for their matte lipsticks and Bourjois for their new eye-shadow compacts).

I have my old laptop as back-up (slow as hell) so I’ll do my level best to write new posts but I may not be as prompt as I’d like to be due to this mishap.  There’s no use in getting upset, it’s just one of those unfortunate things and matters could be far worse.  It’s just thrown a spanner in the works especially with some important photography assignments coming up next month.  I hope my sick baby will be feeling right soon – ideally without the £400+ repair costs.

  1. oh NO! i so feel your PAIN! my HD crashed and i had to pay through the nose to get it recovered before i sent it off for repair because acer said they’d wipe it…and then they didn’t wipe it and so i ended up paying for nothing. but if i hadn’t paid i know they would’ve wiped the HD and i would’ve lost everything but it was SO FRUSTRATING. 🙁

  2. Aw hope it is fixed soon. I am having an expensive week after crashing my car! In fact Ovtober has been so bad with disasters I am fancying hibernating ‘ want to join me lol.

  3. Oh no, Britny! That’s awful! This is just a computer…an expensive one, mind. I am taking it to the Apple store this weekend and hope they won’t run up a high bill. I also hope they won’t write it off as I don’t want a new one. I’m currently typing this on my old PC laptop and it’s painfully slow!!

Sara, I’ve got everything backed up fortunately but I could do without this extra cost. £400 is shocking although I’m told that if it’s just related to the power socket, the cost will be significantly less. Fingers crossed…

  4. It really sucks when things like this happen. I hope you find out the fix is just the power socket and much less than what you are thinking it will cost. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. Hope it all turns out okay!

  5. Oh no! What an awful thing to happen to you. I hope it’s not an expensive fix. Maybe it will just dry out and run? That’s wishful thinking. I’ll pray it’s not too much to fix.
