A refreshing, new skincare has landed on our shores and it ticks a lot of boxes. Clean beauty and vegan friendly Previse’s slogan is ‘powered by nature, not by chemicals’ and their Zerofragrance range is a collection of seven plant-based, unscented skincare products free from essential oils and artificial fragrances, and specially formulated by dermatologists.
Over 3,000 petrochemicals are widely used in artificial fragrances and some essential oils have proved to be irritants so it’s no wonder that there is a demand for clean-beauty options. When you use a plethora of products bursting with numerous ingredients, somewhere along the way there is bound to be a build-up and inevitably a clash. Previse strips it all back and feeds the skin goodness without fuss.
From Previse’s collection, I have tried two products, which are the Marine Granules Skin Brightening Botanical Scrub* (£43/50ml) and Nutrify Ozone Defense Shield* (£49/30ml). The packaging is simple yet practical, nothing fancy in fact so what you pay is purely for the product itself, and that’s important to bear in mind.
The Marine Granules Skin Brightening Botanical Scrub is a gentle yet effective brightening exfoliator that blends fossilise algae with jojoba and botantical extracts to buff the skin and leave it hydrated, soft and smooth. It’s safe enough to use several times a week and what’s more, can be added to a cleanser to give it a boost.
It’s free from sulphates, parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, synthetic dyes and fragrances, and is hypoallergenic so it won’t irritate even the most delicate, sensitive and troublesome skin. To use, squeeze a small amount and rub both palms together to activate the ingredients before applying to damp skin.
Initially I had slapped this scrub straight onto my face but warming the Marine Granules Skin Brightening Botanical Scrub first between the palms of my hands makes a difference. The beads exfoliate my skin without feeling abrasive and as a result, boosts the circulation. Using this scrub brightens my complexion and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised.
The Nutrify Ozone Defense Shield is a vitamin B5, B3 and C, hylaluronic enriched serum that comes with a pump so it’s hygienic without the likelihood of wastage. It looks thick and is transparent but quickly absorbs like water – there’s no aftermath residue feeling as it’s oil-free. It also contains green tea (a powerful oxidant) and interestingly, artichoke elixir, protect against the effects of UV exposure and pollution…and that’s what this serum does – nourishes the skin and helps bind moisture to it to lock out airborne pollutants and protect against the effects of pollution, which in turn would damage and age skin. It’s completely weightless and as it absorbs straight into the skin, its ingredients penetrate the skin and reach the skin dermis. It can also be used as a moisturiser and sunscreen. Previse’s Nutrify Ozone Defense Shield addresses a number of skincare concerns including protecting as well as hydrating and improving skin radiance to name but a few. It’s just pricey particularly if you want more than one product from the range.
That said, I really like the idea of pure, unadultered beauty and welcome the arrival of skincare that caters for it substantially. There doesn’t seem to be anything else similar on the market and there is a demand for clean beauty. Previse’s Zerofragrance range, which is exclusive to Harvey Nichols, certainly exceeds here, catering for those with sensitive skin as well as both genders – two groups that are easy to leave out of the equation.
