Do you remember when I posted a photo of my hairy legs? Here’s a friendly reminder. That was over four years ago so I figured it was time to revisit the moment. Don’t be horrified – we all have hair on our legs (though thankfully not of the Yeti scale on my pins).
Normally our legs go into hiding during the colder months and then we are encouraged to whip them out when the weather becomes warmer but I couldn’t take any more of the fuzz and so I grabbed a pot of home wax and decided to entertain myself one weekend.
The wax I used is one I’ve never tried before. It’s Nair’s Argan Oil Salon Divine Body Wax ‘Bye Bye Pain’ Formula* (what a long name!) To use, just stick it in the microwave for the duration described in the instructions (the exact time depends on how much remains in the pot), stir the thick mixture with the applicator provided and smooth on a thin layer before ripped the strip off. Leave the wax slightly thicker at the end so you can grip it with your fingers before pulling the strip off. It’s not really a wax as such but a resin and the Argan bit just adds a nice scent.
It’s strictly a strip-free peel off wax, which dries in seconds so spreading it back and forth is a no-no. It is strongly advised to do a temperature test first by trying a small amount on your hand or inside of your wrist. It must be feel warm on the skin when you use it but if the consistency is too runny, the chances are it’s overheated and so you should let it cool down for a few more minutes.
One pot contains enough resin wax to cover half of both legs and can be used on arms, underarms and bikini line (ahem, I leave that part to the professional).
For home waxing, I’ve either used wax strips or warm wax with strips so this strip-free version was unusual but not difficult to use. In fact I quite liked the fact there were no strips so there is less waste. The applicator is wooden which works fine but when the wax starts to harden, it becomes difficult to pick up the product and consequently it gets stuck in the pot. Speaking of which, the aftermath of the pot is a mess due to the formula drying super fast and looking like dried-up chewing gum.
In terms of hair removal, Nair’s performance was good to so-so. It starts off well with the temperature of the wax just right but as the formula cools off, it fails to grab all the hairs and after I found there were still some missed spots. I can’t really vouch for the ‘Bye Bye Pain’ part because I’m hardcore with hair removal and don’t wince or well up but if you’re a wuss then I doubt you would even consider doing it yourself.
