Lancôme’s Grandiose Eyeliner* is the latest innovative eyeliner to hit the stands with its biggest attraction, the intriguing bendable wand. It’s designed to make applying eyeliner with precision and Lancôme is confident even the clumsiest hand can get to grips with this. Anyone who uses an eyeliner can confirm both sets of eyes are rarely lined symmetrically…the exception to the rule is Lima from Fashionicide.
The liner comes with a little pot to dip the applicator into. The packaging is plastic and very lightweight…hmm. The bendable element is simply snapping the handle at a 45 degree angle either from the left or right side (depending on your preference). This provides excellent leverage at creating flicks and you can alternate from the tip to using the sides with ease. At first it felt a little strange to hold but I quickly got used to it.
The applicator is felt-tip and is particularly sharp at getting in the inner corners, which I usually find difficult to reach with other eyeliners.
From the first few uses I was hooked and ready to declare this as my holy grail. The pigmentation is impressive and it has good longevity to last all day but now I’m struggling to achieve more than a fine line as the tip dries out and I have to keep popping back in and shaking it all about so I can get a decent thick line. When my frustrations have got the better of me, I have to go over for a thicker line with my trusty Bourjois Liner Pinceau Eyeliner.
I feel Lancôme’s Grandiose Eyeliner is grossly over-priced at £23 when there are better eyeliners on the market at a fraction of the cost and although secure, the packaging is questionable – it feels tacky and cheap, which is disappointing by Lancôme’s standards.
