#IWoreWhatNow with George at Asda

Read Time:2 Minute, 8 Second

sheenie_kidToday’s post is stepping back in time to my childhood. I miss those days… No work, no bills and no stress. But there are some aspects that plague my mind – you could say I’m still scarred from them. I’m not bothered about being labelled the nerdy geek at school whom none of the boys liked or the dreadful haircuts I’d end up with. What still haunts me is the fashion forced upon me by my mum.

You see, Asian mums are different. Asian mums go much further, not just with hand-me-downs from YOUR BROTHER but they worry you will catch cold if you’re not wearing at least four layers. Over your underwear. Asian mums will also mis-match your outfit, pairing a pretty dress with bright red tights. There goes the layering again.

When George at Asda got in touch and asked me to dig out some embarrassing throwbacks from my days of innocence in the name of childhood fashion and compare the outfits with the current fashion trends in the George Kids range, A) I wondered if they *knew* and B) I was extremely doubtful my mum would be on the cutting edge of children’s fashion.

Any hoo, I sifted through the family photo albums and found some photos I am OK about sharing with you. Here I am as a one-year-old wearing a beautiful floral dress. With a stripy jumper clashing spectacularly with it. WHY DID MY MOTHER DO THIS? My brother is colour coordinated but I’m not. By the way, that’s my mum’s hand you can see trying to hold me up. Doesn’t my brother look so happy? I’m just in a state of shock from what my mum decided to put me in for a professional studio photo.

sheenie_babyThis was many moons ago but I have to say, I’m suitably impressed George at Asda is selling a similar looking stripy jumper and a floral dress for girls. Stick those together and what have you got? What I’m modelling above, that’s what. Can we say I was setting a trend here? Woo, go mama Shaikh!

george-asda-stripe-jumpergeorge-asda-floral-dressThe moral of this story? Fashion always comes round full circle. Those bomber jackets we are seeing everywhere? Pah! All the girls at school wore them.

Were you always kitted out in the top threads as a kid or were you stuffed into anything that would fit? I’d love to know that I wasn’t (suffering) alone.
