Henna by Shikha - Just Nice Things

Henna by Shikha

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

Well, hello! It’s more than a week since I last posted. A combination of exhaustion, Ramadan coming to an end, celebrations and my day job being considerably more demanding than usual meant every ounce of energy had been sucked out of me. And it’s been really hot too!

As I become reacquainted with eating and drinking during daylight hours and sleeping soundly without waking up in the middle of the night, I thought I would share a short post.

Last week I celebrated Eid-al-Fitr, the festival that follows the end of a month long of fasting. It’s like Christmas – getting together with family and friends, exchanging presents, buying new clothes and accessories and eating lots of food. In preparation for the day, I had my hands decorated in henna. Usually I never get the chance with time constraints and not living locally to areas with a densely muslim population but this year help came courtesy of my friend, Shikha who has recently qualified as a henna artist.

In the last year or so, I’ve happily been Shikha’s guinea pig and seen how she’s come leaps and bounds with her skills. I have big hopes for this girl and will be freely offering my limbs to be decorated as soon as she utters the words.

If you want to see her work, she’s got a Facebook page. Shikha is also on Instagram and if you fancy having some henna done, she’s based in north London.

Shikha only uses pure home-made henna so no colouring or artificial additives added which could cause a reaction. Henna usually lasts a week depending on how frequently water comes into contact. Obviously the palms of your hands will be the first to fade first. And henna isn’t just for weddings! It’s for any happy, celebratory occasion.

Any way, enough of my waffling. Hope you like the pictures!
