Green EOTD

A little while ago, Stina from Chic Beauty Blog set me the challenge to create a green-themed EOTD, featuring Urban Decay’s green glitter gel in Roadie*, which is a forest-green shade, flecked with pieces of yellow glitter. Not the most wearable, you might think. Now, I like a challenge, especially make-up related ones, so gladly accepted.

I first attempted to layer the glitter gel over a nude, white toned base, but found it to be a bit wishy-washy, so there was only one thing for it, to vamp it up a little.

OK, so this might be a little more Hallowe’en than St Patrick’s Day, but I really enjoyed creating this look. It might not be one you want to wear every day, and is quite a long way from being work appropriate (depending on where you work, of course!), but if you’re going to do a guest EOTD, might as well make it an interesting one.

After applying a layer of my current favourite base, Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Make-up*, I used Illamasqua Hunger cream shadow all over the lid. I love this pretty pink toned shadow that is full of gold shimmer. I then ringed my eyes with the glitter gel, putting it on with a small angled brush. It did itch a bit as the gel was drying, so this certainly isn’t one for sensitive skins. Using a base is absolutely essential, as I noticed when I swatched this on my hand previously that it left a big yellow stain. Eek!

Next, I blended in a good amount of Illamasqua Chasm, which is a mermaidy blue-green pure pigment. It blended really nicely with the glitter and the two played very well together. It wasn’t quite “enough” for me though so I added in some Illamasqua Zeitgeist* whilst I was at it. I love Zeitgeist, it is the purest and most versatile black pigment. It doesn’t have a tendency to get everywhere though so you need light hand.

Finally, I added some highlight with Illmasqua Beguile*, which is a beautiful shimmery pigment with orange and blue flecks. So pretty. I then finished the look with a Boots 17 mascara in black/green*, which is a great alternative to a black mascara as it is still dark, but has a sheen like a raven’s wing. And lastly, a sweep of Nars Douceur blusher (my favourite matte blusher of all time) and some lip balm. I didn’t think big statement lips were needed here!

So there we have it. I like this alternative to the normal grey and black or brown smokey eye. It didn’t take long to do, and gave me a chance to reach for some of the more dramatic eyeshadows in my collection that I rarely get to wear.
