Get ready for Christmas with Daniel Sandler

Saturday mornings for me means that much needed lie-in I look forward to at the end of every working week except at the weekend just gone, I was up earlier than I wake up for work, heading for one of the most congested parts of central London – Oxford Circus – to watch make-up artist and friend, Daniel Sandler host a make-up seminar.

It’s the second one Daniel’s held this year, attracting a lot of attention and enthusiasm from women keen to watch and learn from Daniel in how to create fuss-free make-up looks that take you from day to play and more importantly, to be confident about it because there is this awful tendency to market make-up for those with Photoshopped complexions. And it really feels like a class – held at the London College of Fashion’s main auditorium with face charts and pens handed out to every attendee.

The mind behind the seminars and the host is Daniel’s partner, Simon Vallance who deserves a special mention for his fantastic bespoke electric blue suit by KG Bespoke.

danielsandlerseminar_1The theme this time was Christmas Party Looks and with the shops awash with beauty products for the festive season, it is a little overwhelming what to go for. Daniel demonstrated how to vamp up your look with a handful of products and without breaking the bank.

One look was smoky Cranberry eyes on the first model, Amanda using Bourjois’s new Color Edition 24 Hour Eyeshadow  in Prune Nocturne as a base on the lids and Daniel’s quad Beyond Sunset packed on top. The finished look was so flattering with Amanda’s blue eyes and it’s got me thinking I should do this look on myself too because it suits all eye colours and skin tones.

Then it was my turn to hop onto the stage to be a model for Daniel’s final look. It sounded like a great idea when we talked about it in the run up to this event. Then I clapped eyes on the camera projecting onto the big screen in HD and it was quite a different story. HD is made for David Attenborough’s wildlife documentaries, not for my visage. *cries*

danielsandlerseminar_6 danielsandlerseminar_11 danielsandlerseminar_10 danielsandlerseminar_12I’m not one to err on the side of caution when it comes to wearing bold make-up so Daniel had my utmost approval to ramp things up. When I saw the colours he wanted to use, I wasn’t surprised he was so excited. Daniel went for peacock shades with Tom Ford’s Emerald Lust quad, his Instant Tan as a blusher and finished off with a sensational pair of Shu Uemura lashes he had been hoarding for years and gothic lips with his (sadly discontinued) Micro Berry lipstick. The entire look took less than 30 minutes and it was right up my street! I have been neglecting aquatic shades for so long and I realised they’re such flattering shades I should wear more often.

It’s well worth catching one of Daniel’s classes. Not only does the man have the patience to encourage and inspire those afraid of make-up, he adores his job and is profoundly honest. You needn’t fork out a fortune to look good and it’s not difficult either.
