Here comes the sun…

It’s apparent from my awkward stance that I am not a born fashion model/blogger. I’m too old for this shizz – you kids know how to do this malarkey without looking like a total pleb.

But a couple of weeks ago I bought a maxi dress and at the weekend I had the chance to finally wear it. I got in my car and cruised around in it with the top down (the car’s, not mine)…to the petrol station. (Actually I had to eventually turn back and go home but that’s another story.) Any way! It’s a fabulous find from Primark’s spring/summer 2014 collection at only £13 and it makes me think of Brazil with the football world cup carnival coming up.

I was half unsure when trying it on in the changing room but at less than 15 quid, I figured I couldn’t go wrong. In the worst case scenario, I could wear it indoors or in front of a family relation (because it’s such a modest outfit that surely there would be no reason to complain about unnecessary exposure of skin. Ahem!)

Thankfully I am in love with it. Yellow is one of my favourite bright colours to wear and the dress covers up the lumps and bumps without making me look like I’ve draped myself with a tent. The belt it comes with is OK though I will probably replace it with one of my own.

To add the finishing touch, Bourjois’ new Rouge Velvet Edition lipstick in Pink Pong (£8.99) sealed the deal. I love the intense fuchsia pink colour and for a matte finish lipstick, it does not peel or dry.

The rest of the make-up is very minimal for a scorching day. I wore Eve Lom‘s Radiance Perfected Tinted Moisturiser with SPF15 in Honey (£48) and dabbed on Illamasqua’s Cream Blusher in Laid.

I think you look lovely! And you pose totally appropriate, not like those little kids – I feel tense just looking at those awkward poses 😉

Thank you, Caroline! I wish I had my own photographer. The next door neighbour must have thought I was daft taking photos of myself in the garden. xx

The yellow looks fab on you. It’s one colour I don’t think I’ve ever worn. I like yellow but just don’t think I coukd carry it off. I will wear vibrant oranges, greens etc but deffo wouldn’t have the guts for yellow.
Love the pink Lippy too even though I’m generally not a lover of pink 🙂

Aw, thank you Britny. Perhaps try a pastel yellow? Bright yellow is quite a screamer but pastel is always flattering on all skin tones. I’ve got to review the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks – I’ve actually misplaced one of them and it had to be my favourite one out of the lot! xx

Aneela, thank you for your sweet words. I’m not promising a regular feature but I’ll see what I can come up with! xx

Does anyone else find that the belts on Primark dresses are a size smaller than the dress itself? I have about three and can’t do any up without sucking everything in painfully.

@LiseyDuck This is the first time I’ve bought an item with a belt from Primark. It doesn’t surprise me about the sizings. I’m a size up if not 2 in Primark.
