I’ve been wearing contact lenses since I was 15. I have tried them all – monthlies, coloured and dailies. Monthlies were an arduous chore to clean daily and disinfect once a week. Coloured contacts (also monthlies) were never naturally convincing but in my defence I was 17.
Then my optician introduced me to daily disposable contact lenses and I’ve never looked back since. Daily disposables lenses are the healthiest way to wear contact lenses because, instead of storing and cleaning them meticulously, you wear a fresh pair each time and discard after one wear. They truly are low maintenance and cost-effective. Also with daily disposables it’s easier to give my eyes a rest on off-days, which is essential plus they are convenient when travelling, taking up little space in your luggage with no concerns about carrying liquids on board.
The daily disposable lenses I use are Johnson & Johnson’s 1-Day Acuvue Moist, which have served me well for as long as I can remember. When I heard about their new dailies – 1-Day Acuvue Define – which not only corrects vision but also enhances the beauty of eyes without actually changing eye colour, I wanted in. It’s sort of like wearing a fantastic mascara that gives you long, thick lashes instead of falsies.
There are two natural designs available in the 1-Day Acuvue Define range – Natural Shimmer and Natural Sparkle. Natural Shimmer gives depth and intensity whereas Natural Sparkle gives a luminous brightening effect. I tried both as part of a 5 day free trial currently being offered by Acuvue. In my opinion, Natural Sparkle is ideal for blue eyes as the brightening effect is more prominent – it didn’t show up as much on my brown eyes, however Natural Shimmer was immediately striking and I knew there and then this was the one for me.
Thanks to the unique iris-inspired design the lens accentuates the natural radiance of the eyes, while a combination of light effect patterns helps brighten their appearance. They are not coloured contacts because the intricate design sits with your natural eye colour and does not change the colour, it simply enhances it.
I’m wearing a 1-Day Acuvue Define in Natural Shimmer lens on the left. There is a subtle but noticeable difference next to my naked eye on the right. I prefer them to my regular 1-Day Acuvue Moist lenses.
I have found the 1-Day Acuvue Define lenses so comfortable that I forgot I had them on by the time I was ready for bed. It’s thanks to the beauty wrapped in comfort Technology, which makes these lenses comfortable to wear all day and retain the moisture too, because the technology ensures the pigment stays imbedded in the lens. The lenses also has one of the highest levels of UV protection available in a daily disposable.
This short video shows how 1-Day Acuvue Define was created and how its unique design helps wearers’ eyes look brighter and more radiant:
After my first wear, I knew I wanted to switch to 1-Day Acuvue Define in Natural Shimmer and after my trial was over, I placed an order for 30 pairs. They cost £44 for a month’s supply for both eyes, which is more than the 1-Day Acuvue Moist lenses. I have no qualms about paying a little extra when these are just as comfortable but also brightens the appearance of my eyes.
These really are wonderfully innovative. If you are considering trying them but aren’t sure of the gamble, fear not for you can sign up for a no-strings attached free 5 day trial at www.acuvue.co.uk. Then all you’ve got to do is visit your nearest optician for a fitting. I had mine at Boots and they did a superb job of looking after me.
If you decide to go for the free trial, you could be in with a chance of winning a year’s supply of 1-Day Acuvue Define contact lenses. Just share a picture of your eyes with the lenses on and tell Acuvue about your experience. One lucky winner will be selected every week for 12 weeks.
If you’ve tried 1-Day Acuvue Define lenses, I’d love to know what your thoughts are and how you’ve found them. In the meantime, if you’re new to contact lenses or are a regular wearer and would like to know how to enhance your eyes even more, here are a few natural eye make-up tips:
- Use white kohl in the lower waterline as it makes eyes appear more open and bigger. Using black inside the waterline makes eyes appear more intense and piercing but also smaller.
- Curl lashes with an eyelash curler to make your eyes appear wide open and coat with mascara.
- Extend the eyeliner upwards beyond the outer corners of your eyes to make them appear wider.
- If wearing eyeshadow, use a soft light colour in the inner corner – this will give the appearance of larger looking eyes.
And that’s not all…
